Speck case replacement warranty review & how to

Speck makes it both easier and harder than Zagg to make a warranty claim.  On the pne hand, you don't have to pay shipping, like with Zagg.  But they don't have an online form.  You just email customer service!

On the one hand, I'm happy with how relatively easy it can be.  On the other hand, it's frustrating how much time and how many emails it took since they aren't clear about how to file the claim on their website. And on the other hand, I'm irritated with how the phone case materials lend themselves to ripping or tearing.

So you don't deal with the annoyance of multiple emails, I'm going to give you the skinny on how to get things in order for them.  List all of the following:

Name, current address, date of purchase of your phone &where purchased.
Attachments:
1.  Photos of the damage to the case
2.  A copy of your purchase receipt.

If you purchased your phone online, obviously getting a copy of the receipt will be very easy.

Email your claim to customerservice@speckproducts.com.  Once your claim is complete, they say they will send it out right away.  I'm waiting.  I will update when I get it.

How InvisibleSheild fools you, how they're great, and how to beat the system

I just put InvisibleSheild on my phone and I'm amused by how so many people think it's magic that you use their wipe and then put on the screen.  You see magic, I see an alcohol wipe.  Yes, that's right!  You're paying extra to "prime the adhesive."  And there is a replacement warranty!  No, people, you've been fooled.

What they did is brilliant, though.

They give you the alcohol wipe, a cleaning cloth, a "squeegee" and have given the shield additional plastic around it so that you can position it on your screen.  They call it "Application Gel."  Seriously.

That "application gel" (alcohol) allows you some small leeway to get those obnoxious bubbles out from between the screen and the protector.  But really, it's the evaporation of the alcohol which gets rid of ubiquitous and troublesome microbubbles.  There is no special bonding property which makes it actually a better product.

After years of never having problems, I dropped my phone and it the edge of a metal leg.  Darnit!  Putting a screen protector on AFTER was an exercise in frustration, but I had to do it because I was waiting for the right phone for me before I finally went for it.  I wanted the best bang for my buck and didn't want to get splinters in my fingers while waiting.  So I know full well that often that screen protector is the only thing keeping a screen together.

What they do that is brilliant is all about marketing.  They put it all together in one package which you pay extra money to buy.  That's brilliant.  I wish I had thought of that.  Application gel!  Hilarious.

And then there's the "warranty."  Sure, you can get a replacement, but you have to pay for shipping!  $3.99 for first class mail.  And I'm sure you have to pay the return shipping of your messed up shield - because guess what - if you don't mail it back, they charge you for the replacement!  BONUS to them.

BUT, I found a workaround!  And I'm passing it on to you.  Check out www.FreeShipping.com.  I don't blame you for not wanting to trust any company that offers you something that sound too good to be true, so I'll ive you the details on it..  They offer a free trial period, and it's about 11.95 monthly.  In exchange, they give you 10% cash back and pay for up to $10 on purchase shipping and return shipping.  It's ideal for someone who orders alot of things from online.  So, I'm going to make my order through Zagg and claim that shipping reimbursement.  Please click on my link. :)

In the end, my review is MEH.  You can get a cheaper screen protector, an alcohol wipe from a first aid kit, and a microfiber cloth anywhere.  You can even use something other than the "squeegee" they put in their packaging.  In fact, doing so will save you some bucks.
