Recently the New York Times ran an article about the struggle many singles face as they attempt to find a post as a pastor only to discover most churches want married people.  Steve DeWitt weighed in by saying that his church in Crown Point, Indiana hired a single guy to be a pastor and it was a great blessing - he's the single guy.

Meanwhile the New York Times article maintained an attitude of "woe is me."  And Southern Baptist Al Mohler shared his thoughts.  So now I'm going to give my thoughts as well.  Please note that it's mainly directed at men, but there a few things for the ladies to think about...

Where the boys are... complete with map

I found this map due to a discussion on a blog.  While it might be true that there are more single men in LA than in NYC, let's take a look at these single men.  Please click on read more to see the dots on the maps...

Manning Up: How the rise of women has turned men into boys, a new book

Oh no!  No wonder we are still single.  Societal upheaval was never a simple affair.  Apparently women in their 20s and 30s are out-earning men.

It's a real problem for dating.  No one knows what's expected.  (Great.)

How to hold the door open for others, everyday etiquette

DESCRIPTION
by Ross MacDonald
I've often been at the gym when someone tried to hold the door open for me before they walked through it, semi-blocking the path.  It just happened today at the bank where someone was standing in the path of the door rather than actually stepping aside with it.  In order to walk through the door, I would have to push the door myself to keep it from closing.  Since this is one of those things that isn't really taught anymore, it's leading to quite a few awkward moments at the door because of the ways the door swings.

TIP:  Generally speaking when holding the door,  you open the door and walk with the door where it swings and stand with the door holding it open until people pass through.   It doesn't matter which way the door swings.  Sometimes you will walk through the door first depending on which way it swings.  Do NOT stand in the path of the door.

Sports-Themed Dating Show CASTING CALL!

I got a kick out of this!  Looking for love with a sports lover?  I have a great many female friends who cheer just as loud as the guys.  Some are taken by men who appreciate that.  Some are still available.  Maybe something could work out.  From what I can tell, many of the guys in the blogging world are not as social as men who are out there dating, but I could be wrong.  If I have any sports-loving girls reading, please think about this show and look for it to appear somewhere soon!  Click read more to find out more information.

Recessionista Smarts - consignment and other ways of selling old stuff

Yes, we've all looked in our closets and our bookselves and wondered how all of that stuff got there.  I looked at the prospect of giving these things away and felt the shock of how much money I had paid out--even for the things I bought on sale.  So I did what any reasonable person would do.  Nothing.  I let the stuff take up space in my closet and on my bookselves until...Something really amazing happened.  Amazon opened up their website to allow others to sell as a marketplace.  And a clothing consignment shop opened near me.

Women are superior in almost everything...

So says, "Man Down" a book with over 100 surveys about men and women.  Men go for broke, go for the home run.  Meanwhile women are more methodical.  The author says women are better drivers and hedge fund managers.  I've encountered terrible drivers of both sexes.

Do you agree?

Why I thank God I'm single, some very real reasons to rejoice

A friend of mine posted happy brithday to his deceased wife.  I realized that I miss my husband, too.  However, I don't have him in my life.  Since I don't, I thank God I'm free from the following kind of men.  I want a healthy relationship and it seems like there are alot of people out there who are not healthy.

I'm glad I'm free from a man who beats my children and myself.  Tyler Perry's mom wasn't so lucky, neither was Tyler Perry.  There were a few guys who wanted to date me who showed signs of being extremely angry very early on and I passed because I know what's coming.  I talked to a woman last night who divorced her husband when he became violent after starting anti-depressant treatment and discoving how deep his alcoholism was.  That being said...

Recessionista tips and tricks, let there be Big Crumbs! (Just like Bing Cashback!)

I just got my first payout from BigCrumbs. Whenever I buy something online, I check to see if there is a link on Big Crumbs first. For reals, people. This is like Bing Cashback. You know you cried when it died. I sure did. The new Bing program promised to be better and it sure was annoying.

Big Crumbs came in handy very recently. I wanted my favorite anti-perspirant which was not available in regular stores. I didn't want to have to search every Target until kingdom come. So I bought it from Drugstore.com.  It was on sale PLUS I got cashback.
