Why getting along with Muslims can be a bit tough

There was recently an explosion in Oslo, Norway. Terrorism is rampant everywhere. But there is a reason why we just can't get along.

True, many are peaceful. They also probably don't take their religion as seriously as those who act on these verses...

I did not make this stuff up!

-Christians are infidels. Koran 5: 72-75; ,

-Decapitate infidels. (anyone who stands against Mohammad). Koran 8: 12-15;

-Slay Idolaters. Koran 9: 5, 6;

-Regarding infidels (unbelievers), they are the Muslim's "inveterate enemies" (Sura 4:101).

-Muslims are to "arrest them, besiege them and lie in ambush everywhere" (Sura 9:5).

-seize them and put them to death wherever you find them, kill them wherever you find them, seek out the enemies of Islam relentlessly" (Sura 4:90).

-"Fight them until Islam reigns supreme" (Sura 2:193).

-"Cut off their heads, and cut off the tips of their fingers" (Sura 8:12).

-If a Muslim does not go to war, Allah will kill him (Sura 9:39).

-A Muslim must "fight for the cause of Allah with the devotion due to him" (Sura 22:78).

-Muslims must make war on the infidels (unbelievers) who live around them (Sura 9:123).

-Muslims are to be "ruthless to unbelievers" (Sura 48:29).

-A Muslim can kill any person he wishes if it be a "just cause" (Sura 6:152).

-Anyone who fights against Allah or renounces Islam in favor of another religion shall be "put to death or crucified or have their hands and feet cut off alternative sides" (Sura 5:34).

-Whoever changes his Islamic religion, kill him. Sahih Al-Bukhari (9:57).

-Slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush. (Koran 9:5)

-Christians are infidels for believing Christ is the Son of God. Koran 5: 17 – 19

-Cut off hands and feet, crucify, and banish those who stand against Islam. Koran 5: 33.

I think it's important to remember that not every Muslim is like this, just like not all Christians are like those of Westboro "Baptist Church. "Not to say that there are not branches of the Muslim faith that take these verses to extreme, but we have the exact same instances when Christians misquote the Bible. Things like this only further breed the mistrust, hate, and misunderstandings. I just quickly googled and this is what I came up with (I haven't gone back to reread around these verses). It's important to note that the Bible, as well as the Koran are historically conditioned, many things are a reaction to what was going on while they were written.
It's unfortunate that the crazies in any denomination or religion are the ones that get the attention and cause destruction, instead of attracting attention for the Love that we are called to show. I've known a number of Muslims who were incredibly faithful and peaceful, who have come under attack because of the terrorism that has now caused them to be persecuted. I challenge Christians to live John 13:35-36, "“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)

You should not let a sorceress live. (Exodus 22:17 NAB)

If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives. (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)

A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death. (Leviticus 20:27 NAB)

If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death. (Leviticus 20:10 NLT)

A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death. (Leviticus 21:9 NAB)

Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

Make ready to slaughter his sons for the guilt of their fathers; Lest they rise and posses the earth, and fill the breadth of the world with tyrants. (Isaiah 14:21 NAB)

Cursed be he who does the Lords work remissly, cursed he who holds back his sword from blood. (Jeremiah 48:10 NAB)

And from my understanding of the terrorist in Norway, he was a member of a Christian extremist group that was seeking to combat the muslim "colonization" of the area. I haven't read much, so I may be wrong.

SavvyD said...

Well, we didn't get much news initially about what group this guy was associated with.

I don't agree with what he did at all.

Even in Spain, hundreds of years ago, there was a peaceful occupation during which Islamic culture became a part of Spanish history. However, that ended when extremist Muslim warriors invaded. The Spanish ran the Inquisition in large part to get rid of them and reclaim the country for Christianity and for the Spanish natives.

Can't say that I blame them. Solo terrorism is just wrong.

I think Lindsay answered or rather commented beautifully, I have a lot of Muslim friends, and they are great people, they can be a little difficult when it comes to dating their women, but hey, who isn't; truth be said, you fell in the same trap the media fell in, which is stereotyping and misjudging a group; at least you didn't follow their hypocritical adjustment of "correcting" the event and calling it an "Attack" once it was revealed that it wasn't done by Muslims...the closest thing to a fundamental Islamic extremist is a fundamental Christian extremist...Terrorism is evil and evil has no race, gender or religion. Now regarding the quotes you used, I will caution you not to do your own private interpretation of the Quran, if you want to quote it, study it first, because a Muslim could very well quote Bible verses that suggest Incest, Genocide, racism, rape, pedophilia, intolerance, etc...with that said, Any interfaith relationship has challenges, at the end of the day, it is about how well you can live your faith without being challenged by the other's faith...

SavvyD said...

Just about any text can be used to interpret just about anything. But extremists do live by these.

I'd probably get stoned if I ever visited a Muslim country because I don't do very well at keeping my mouth shut.

When it comes to interfaith dating choose your own adventure.

I've had very few Muslim friends. I won't date a Muslim man - ever. When I considered it, his friends had lied to me and told me he was Christian. The man also began acting jealous and questioned what I was doing and with whom before we even met.

The guy who was in the American army as a psychologist and killed a bunch of people completely freaks me out. He was supposed to be one of ours.

Regis Zoula said...

Actually, you can get stoned (or shot) about anywhere if you don't keep your mouth shut...:-)knowing our boundaries in a foreign environment is part of the wisdom God imparted us, Paul was told not to go to Jerusalem...the toughest part of Interfaith relationship boils down to how committed you are to live your life as a Christian, at some point it will conflict if the other party does not.

Everything you mentioned about the Muslim guy you considered is foremost a Human thing...pick any girly magazine, and you'll read women stories of men who were controlling, jealous and liars...now regarding that guy in the army, think a little, as a U.S soldier never killed a Christian abroad? in war or not, when you die at the hands of a Christian, shouldn't you feel that He is one of you? we are to be conformed to a Christian faith, and live by it, not by evaluating other faith, or abiding to the standards of nationalism that are just another man-made creation for division...

SavvyD said...

I'm not ure I completely get what you are saying, but I defind your right to say it, therefore I have published it.

Seriously? This is why good Muslim (or 'muslim appearing') people get killed in America all the time. Because people like you immediately jump to 'oh man, look how evil they are!'.

But of course, as soon as you find out it was a Christian Fundamentalist, you make a vague 'well, that wasn't right' statement, then go straight back to hating on Muslims.

Where's the despair for the victims? The well wishes and prayers for healing for the survivors? Buried under unnecessary for those of the Muslim faith.

If the Inquistion was 'mostly to reclaim the country for Christianity', then why did it run for several centuries and involve the death of so many protestants?

Stop re-writing history. Stop spreading hate. Stop picking and choosing scripture; as Lindsay pointed out, the bible has a lot of evil too, something you choose to ignore, just as the Karan has a lot of good, particularly towards it's 'brother religions' Judaism and Christianity, since we all worship the same God.

Educate yourself. It makes the world a better place.

I don't hate Muslims. I just don't want to marry one.

Jihad is a part of their teachings, even though it's a matter of how extreme one wants to be in their faith.

I'm not seeing Muslims being killed, but I have to admit I'm still pretty peeved when we have had Muslim extremists in our own military ranks go Jihad and kill a bunch of US military people. If that's hate for wanting them to be severely punished for their un-American treasonous acts, COUNT ME IN!

SavvyD said...

PS "Protestants" weren't created until Luther nailed the 95 theses to the door of the Catholic church where he had been a Catholic priest.

So, to what protestants are you referring? I'm not sure they existed in Spain yet.

Speaking of Spain and Mexico - both have cities with the name Matamoros. Please look that up. You could say, they were pretty pissed off over being invaded.

Finally, here's a bit from Wikipedia about the Reconquista and Islam in Spain. Wikipedia is not neccesarily 100% accurate, however, I don't just randomly make stuff up.

Thanks for defending my rights...:-) what I meant and was reiterated by others is very simple: Christianity is what God did for man; Religion is Man trying to do God's work. Being American, in the military, British, etc...is nothing more than human corruption to justify their deeds in the name of God.
Do not fool yourself, There are NO government, no Country, No political party that can or will ever effectively live up to God's standard, for the simple reason that none of it are God institution. If anything you should retain from the event in Norway is that Evil has no religion; there are as many Muslim that die in the hands of so-called Christians, than Christians dying at the hands of Muslims...please, remember that we wrestle not against Flesh and Blood, our job is to share the gospel and live up to God standards as the Body of Christ...events like Jihad, war on terrorism, Nato raids or the inquisition are the same distraction to suck us into a spiral of hate, condemnation, judgement, debates and violence...don't fall for it.
